Their common room has not been entered by outsiders for over a thousand years and is the only common room that Harry Potter did not visit in any of the seven books! It is located right next to the Hogwarts kitchens and can be accessed via a stack of barrels stacked on the right-hand side of the corridor. To enter, one must tap the barrel in the middle of the second row in the rhythm of "Helga Hufflepuff." It is also the only common room with a built-in defense system. If you have been thinking about joining HUFFLEPUFF in Hogwarts Legacy, this is for you! Although the setting of Hogwarts Legacy will be familiar to Harry Potter fans, the lengthy history of Hogwarts can be difficult to keep track of. When considering the upcoming RPG is a prequel to the main series, taking place one hundred years before Harry Potter and his friends ever even stepped foot in the school, understanding the timeline will be more crucial than ever before. Newer fans in particular may benefit from learning exactly how the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was founded, in order to gain a deeper understanding of Hogwarts Legacy's events and their significance in the Harry Potter universe. Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1890s, but the in-game version of Hogwarts will remain faithful to depictions offered by the main series. Specifically, the developers have expressed their focus on the Harry Potter books, as they have allowed them to take more creative liberties. Hogwarts Legacy will include iconic locations from both the films and the books, though, and so far, the map looks to be expansive and fully explorable. The lore of Hogwarts will also remain true to the main franchise, and so those unfamiliar with Harry Potter lore may find it helpful to understand the foundations of the school before diving into the wizarding world. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was founded in the 10th century by four of the most esteemed witches and wizards of the time: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Together, the "Hogwarts Four" intended to create a secret, safe environment for young magic users to learn about and practice their arcane talents, without worrying about judgment or persecution (as was common at the time). Each founder had different ideas on who should be taught at the school, resulting in Hogwarts Legacy's four Houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Players can choose their Hogwarts Legacy house early, and of their own volition, but when Hogwarts was first created, each Founder would personally pick which students would join their House (usually based on their personality traits and values). For example, Rowena Ravenclaw sought out those with the most intelligence and creativity, whereas Salazar Slytherin infamously valued pureblood students above all else. In fact, this caused tension between Slytherin and the other three Houses, which eventually prompted Salazar Slytherin to leave his position of authority at the school. The Sorting Ceremony was then later replaced by Godric's enchanted Sorting Hat, which is featured in Harry Potter and Hogwarts Legacy alike. Before the founders died, though, they left behind four relics: the Sword of Gryffindor, Slytherin's Locket, Ravenclaw's Diadem, and Hufflepuff's Cup. These artifacts are considered highly valuable to students, and they possess powerful magical qualities which align with the values of each individual House in Hogwarts Legacy. It's possible that the Founder's relics could even be involved in the plot of the game, given their significance to Hogwarts. Memorizing the full history of the school won't be necessary to play and enjoy Hogwarts Legacy, but learning how Hogwarts was founded will certainly provide deeper insight into some of the game's quests. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing the Hogwarts Founders. Let’s get in to it. If you think about the greatest founder of Hogwarts, who comes to mind? If you value overall magical abilities, you might be tempted to choose Salazar Slytherin. Afterall, he created a secret, enchanted chamber right under the noses of the 3 other, original teachers at the school… and none of them ever found out. But if you are fascinated by the legacy of wizards who triumphed over dark sorcerers, you’d likely suggest Godric Gryffindor. The students who enrolled in his house were among the strongest wizards in all of Europe. And in the 20th century, Gryffindors students were responsible for defeating not just Grindelwald, but also the far more terrifying dark wizard, Tom Riddle. I’d imagine, even a few of you, would throw out Rowena Ravenclaw as your choice. Unlike the other founders, Rowena wasn’t interested in courage or pure-blood… she chose her students based on their intelligence. The greatest wandmaker in the world, the man responsible for giving both Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter the tools they needed to duel, Garrick Ollivander, was actually a graduate of Rowena’s house. But I’m willing to claim that Helga Hufflepuff, the fourth and last founder of Hogwarts, might actually have been greater than all the rest. Why? Well, that’s what we’re going to talk about today when we look at her life and legacy. Just like the other founders of Hogwarts, Helga Hufflepuff represented a unique part of the British isles. Godric Gryffindor was born in the West Country of England, Rowena Ravenclaw in a narrow valley within the Scottish Countryside, and Salazar Slytherin in Ireland (although that last part is often contested). But Helga, just like one of the most unique indigenous creatures in Britain, the green, Welsh dragons, hailed from Wales. Although the ancient records of her hometown have been lost, we know that Helga was raised far away from the urban trading centers that bordered England, and instead grew up deep within the Welsh countryside, amidst its flowing creeks and low-rolling hills. ...Watch the video for the rest! Hey everyone ! Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory! In this video we’re going to be discussing the 5 most powerful witches and wizards that came from Hufflepuff house. In 2 of my older videos, I showed you my top 5 lists for Gryffindor and Slytherin. I’ve been seeing a lot of requests for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, so here we go. Hufflepuff is best introduced in the Sorting Hat’s own words: "You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, And unafraid of toil." Each of the four houses are known for lots of different things, but usually there is one particular aspect that sticks out. Where Gryffindor is known for it’s brave alumni, and Slytherin is known for its cultivation of dark witches and wizards, Hufflepuff is known for producing the FEWEST number of dark witches and wizards. Hufflepuff’s are hard working, wholesome, trustworthy, loyal and have an impeccably strong work ethic. But Hufflepuff gets a bit of a hard time from some, and is publicly criticized as being neither particularly exceptional or clever-but this is far from the truth, as Hufflepuff has produced some of the most impressive witches and wizards to date . Now, if you know Hogwarts history, which you should, then you will know that Hogwarts had four founders, Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff, and Godric Gryffindor. The 4 founders enchanted a hat, the sorting hat, a hat that would allocate students to each of the houses. After the student places the hat on their head, it begins to analyze their mind and places them in a house based on how closely they resemble one of the four founders- and if the hat senses great bravery, Gryffindor is the likely choice. Ravenclaw valued intelligence, Hufflepuff valued hard work, and Slytherin valued aspirations for power. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing the COMPLETE history of Hogwarts and the lives of all 4 founders- Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw. In this video, I’ve left no stone unturned in the discussion of Hogwarts’ tumultuous history, and I’ve included everything I could possibly find on the school’s 4 founders. By the end of this video, you’re going to be an expert. I’m going to kick off things by discussing HOW the school was founded, then begin diving in to the rich histories of each founder. Sit back, relax, and enjoy. Hogwarts was founded at some point during the tenth century. It was built hidden off somewhere in the Scottish highlands (the exact location is never actually revealed)- and this was because the tenth century was a time of hardship for witches and wizards. During this time, every day, witches and wizards were being persecuted by muggles-who were intensely hostile when it came to witnessing sources of magic. In order to further protect the staff, students, and school itself- additional precautions were made in the form of charms - helping to further conceal the school from muggle trespassers. If a muggle were to just happen to stumble upon the school grounds- they would only see ruins, and signs warning them to stay away. Hogwarts was founded when four 10th century witches and wizards got together, and decided that they had, in the sorting hat’s own words: ‘the selfsame yearning, to make the world’s best magic school’. These founders were Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin and Helga Hufflepuff. Thus, Hogwarts was born. The name Hogwarts actually came from founder Rowena Ravenclaw, who had a dream where a ‘warty’ hog lead her to a cliff by a lake - it’s also been speculated that this is how they chose the location for the school as well. After its establishment, like with any institution, a crest was formed for Hogwarts. Hufflepuffs are smart! They also have amazing qualities like patience, strong work ethics and constancy. The Hufflepuff common room is entered from the same corridor as the Hogwarts kitchens... CLICK TO VIEW MORE! A pile of large barrels is to be found stacked in a shadowy stone recess , the barrel two from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open if tapped in the rhythm of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. As a security device to repel non-Hufflepuffs, tapping on the wrong barrel, or tapping the incorrect number of times, results in one of the other lids bursting off and drenching the interloper in vinegar. A sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel travels upwards a little way until a cosy, round, low-ceilinged room is revealed, reminiscent of a badger's set. The room is decorated in the cheerful, bee-like colors of yellow and black, emphasized by the use of highly polished, honey-colored wood for the tables and the round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories. A portrait over the wooden mantelpiece shows Helga Hufflepuff, one of the four founders of Hogwarts School, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. Warm, cozy, bright and welcoming, Cedric Diggory spent lots of time here during his school years hanging out with his friends, and you bet Ernie MacMillan & Hannah Abbott took up a table everyday reading and studying.
