This is a great full body stretch you can do anytime, anywhere. You won't need any blocks, bolsters or straps! We'll target your hips, hamstrings, chest and shoulders in this 60 minute practice. Yin Yoga is meant to be a passive practice where we focus on the fascia and deep connective tissues. Try to relax your muscles as you hold the poses for 2-5 minutes on each side. Remember not to push past your edge, less is always more! What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more flexibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints. There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga. 1. Find your edge 2. Be still 3. Hold the pose Find your edge means respecting your body's limits and not pushing too far and risking injury. Pull back a little bit and as you hold the pose you will be able to go deeper into it without pushing too far or hurting yourself. Being still means that once you are in the pose it is important to completely relax your muscles so the benefits can get into the connective tissues and joints. Try not to fidget or move or distract yourself, this is a meditative practice. Breathe deeply in and out through the nose. Holding the pose means that in Yin Yoga a pose can be held for 1-10 minutes depending on the pose performed and on the comfort level of the student. Easy on the wrists and hands, this wrist free yoga session guarantees a strong yoga practice that does not put weight on the shoulders, arms, and hands. 👉 There will be no Downward Dog, Plank, or other poses that put pressure on hands or wrists, but we still do a strong core workout. Starting in Mountain Pose and ending with a few minutes of Savasana, this 40 minute yoga workout can be easily modified to suit your needs and preferences. This wrist free yoga class has no music, but does contain a soft background noise of nature sounds. I don't use any props in the class. However, feel free to modify if you need to. Welcome to the wonderful world of yoga! When you’re just beginning your yoga practice, it’s important to take it slow, be safe, and enjoy the journey. Whether this is your very first Sun Salutation, or if you’re still getting acclimated to the Vinyasa yoga practice, this is a great video for beginner yogis. ☀️ Sun Salutations, or Surya Namaskar in Sanskrit, are the foundation to Vinyasa flows, and we’ll break down each pose in that series. Explore common yoga poses that you see in most Vinyasa yoga classes, and learn alignment techniques to make sure you’re practicing them safely and correctly. Follow along with Ashton August as she guides you through a short and sweet Sun Salutation flow geared specifically towards beginner yoga students. You’ll come away feeling more confident in your poses and yoga practice as a whole. This will be a slower-paced practice with a little bit of flow, but more time to hold each pose. There are no downward-facing dogs, planks or chaturangas in this sequence.
