Just like everyone else in the world at the moment, we used some AI tools (Chat GPT, Midjourney, Leonardo) and made a video game together. We had a good laugh and learned a thing or two. A lot of people are unsure about AI, worried about AI or feel that AI is not ethical. We believe it's important that we use it ourselves so we can form our own opinions on AI. We also think that using AI is an excellent way for aspiring game developers to improve their skills and knowledge of game development. If you are going to release a commercial game, or sell your projects, we urge you to use only assets for which you have 100% rights to use. Want to learn how to make your own games? Ideas come and go, making it easy to lose track of what you're working on and what you've already built. Here is my game dev productivity workflow to try and help with these game development challenges. Game development can be deceiving, especially if you already know how to code. You might come up with a brilliant game idea and estimate it will only take a couple of weeks to complete. However, reality often sets in, and months later, you find yourself deep into a game dev project with several features that still to be implemented. Personally, I struggle with taking a step back and looking at the big picture. It's essential to detach from the code and details, and view the game as a whole. This is especially true for solo indie game developers. To stay organized, I used to rely on handwritten notebooks for specific problem-solving, but they were not suitable for game design at a macro level. I had to switch to digital tools to support and maintain my game dev workflow and productivity. Creating a mockup of the core gameplay loop for each game has been a significant help. This allows me to develop a concrete guiding principle throughout development, rather than getting lost in small details. I use a tool called Excalidraw to create clean and fast diagrams, which I export and add to a Notion page alongside other mockups and wireframes. In Notion, I organize my tasks for each game, either as a kanban board or a bulleted list. The key is to have everything in one place, making it easy to determine what needs to be worked on and where you left off. I also appreciate how Notion allows me to separate other aspects of my life, such as my business and YouTube channel, on different pages. This creates a clean space to check every day, even when I'm not solely focused on game development. By unloading the mental baggage and reminders into this organized system, I free up mental capacity and reduce the chances of forgetting something important. Overall, the key points in my game dev productivity workflow are: creating a centralized space for game dev using tools like Notion. Diagramming the gameplay loop and outlining MVP features visually. Lastly, it's essential to be honest with yourself about the time commitment and treat game development as a marathon, not a sprint, to avoid burnout and sustain long-term motivation. Aprende a fallar.

this is what you get when you make terrible prototypes for 8 years ⇒ Wishlist Monster Shopper: 🤍 ⇒ Get Dance Assembly: 🤍 ⇒ Buy my book: 🤍 Music by Epidemic Sounds Twitter: 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 Discord: 🤍 Play My Games: 🤍 Twitch: 🤍 Subscribe here! 🤍 CHAPTERS: 00:00 - Intro 00:30 - March to the Beach (First 3D game) 01:20 - Roomba Time 02:22 - Mortal Engines 03:18 - So many survival games 04:16 - More examples 05:02 - The silver lining actual description I've been making games in Unity for about 8 years. And with that come a LOT of terrible prototypes. So in this video, I'd like to share those with you, as well as some motivation to not give up. From my first 3D prototype, to a movie-inspired game, and a bunch of bad survival automation games, there's a lot to unpack. Also, I HATE MORTAL ENGINES My first game, March To The Beach, was inspired by a song by Twenty One Pilots, March To The Sea. It was a 3D walking simulator, that was supposed to have an impressive and emotional story. Yet, it never got further than light switches, and a fridge door. Then, I talk about Roomba Time, a roomba game kind of like Roombo: First Blood, but without the violence. So... not nearly as interesting. It was a fun management game idea where gameplay would slowly get more difficult as time went on. But besides the upgrades, it wasn't exciting much. In 2018, I also started making a game based on the terrible Mortal Engines movie (and book by Philip Reeves). A world where cities were on wheels sounded like the perfect setup for an RTS like StarCraft or Command & Conquer. But I had little experience at the time, so my game prototype was a huge mess I also made a bunch of survival games. A first person tower defense with crafting. Or a combination of Minecraft, Forager, and Factorio. Or Stardew Valley, but in space. People are still sad about me leaving Ikarus behind. And there were many more ideas, but in the end... they just didn't work out. And that's okay. My latest projects are awesome, and I'm actually finishing them for Steam. So go check them out! It has been 8 months since I started making my dream game, and with 2022 wrapping up I thought what better time than now to reflect on everything I accomplished this year. I had to reupload this video because there was a bunch of distortion in the original one. Hopefully this one is better. Discord - 🤍 #unity #gamedev #devlog #indiegame

In the past, I never really was interested in game dev or game design. I've always loved playing video games, but I was hesitant to try game development as I thought it might ruin the magic of video games overall. This video is less of a devlog, and more of a reflection on my experience developing a game so far. But the inevitable YouTube algorithm started to recommend game dev channels, and I was hooked. To start off, I had to decide on a game engine. Some popular game engines are Unity, Unreal, Godot, Gamemaker, Construct, and RPGMaker. I really like C# as a programming language, and many of the tutorials I began watching were using Unity, so I felt Unity was a solid initial choice. I also decided to focus on developing a 2D game similar to Stardew Valley, because I thought making a 3D game may be a little more complex than my free time would support. One thing I usually struggle with when it comes to software engineering side projects, is that I start a lot of projects, but I don't finish a lot of projects (mostly due to waning interest). I didn't want that to happen with game development, so I decided to only work on it when I want to. To hopefully avoid burnout, and not make game dev and design feel like a chore or job. Creating art for game development is also a hurdle. I've tried pixel art and let me tell you, it did not go well. Therefore I decided to pay and support really talented pixel artists, instead of dreading creating terrible looking sprites. You can find the link to their itch pages above! Overall, game development has been the most fun software engineering side project I've ever worked on. Indie game dev is more satisfying as its very visual and tangible (similar to web dev). And in general, I recommend anyone interested in game development or game design, at least try it out. I think Unity is a great engine, but there are a lot of other engines out there to try as well. And remember, if you are doing this for fun, don't make it another job (unless you want to)! #gamedev #softwareengineering #devlog This video was sponsored by Datacamp. c r e d i t s 🎵 Blue Wednesday - Middle School 🤍 Blue Wednesday, Shopan - Home Court 🤍 Aviino - Jasmine 🤍 oddfish - Toddle 🤍 Cloudchord, Smile High, Teddy Roxpin - Sirens 🤍 d i s c l a i m e r I do not claim to own any or all of the pictures/footage that may be shown in this video.
