The amount of custom projects that comes out of the scale segment in RC is astounding. Every day we see tons of creative builds being posted on-line and there doesn’t seem to be any end to the creativity. Some build just for fun and some build with the intention of being as scale as possible. One platform that is a great base for builds is the Axial SCX10. There are endless amounts of parts for it and it works great on the trail. But it is a link suspension style of truck and those who want to build a rig that is ultra scale may want to outfit the truck with a more scale leaf spring style of suspension. Many builders have fabricated leaf spring set-up, but thanks to RC4WD, you can now pick-up a bolt-on suspension kit for your Axial SCX10 II. This kit gives you everything you need to swap out the suspension and even chassis on your Existing SCX10 II Cherokee Build kit and if you have an RTR with the single piece axles, you can buy additional adapters to make this kit work on your truck too. Want to see what’s included in this kit? Want to see what it looks like installed and do you want to see it perform on the trails? Then you picked the right video to watch because it’s all here! Video Captured with Insta360 One RS one inch edition - RC Truck in this video: RC4WD Gelande II Cruiser (FJ40) Hobbywing Fusion SE Lots of CCHand scale upgrades Full Light Kit Shimming the RC4WD Yota axle, or any axle in a remote-controlled (RC) vehicle, is a common practice to fine-tune the performance and durability of the vehicle. Shims are thin, flat pieces of material that are used to adjust the spacing between various components, such as gears, bearings, or axle shafts. Here are some reasons why you might want to shim your RC4WD Yota axle: Gear Mesh Adjustment: Shims can be used to adjust the gear mesh between the pinion gear (attached to the motor) and the ring gear (inside the axle housing). Proper gear mesh is critical for efficient power transfer and to prevent premature wear on the gears. Axle Clearance: Shimming can help ensure that the axles are properly aligned and that there is sufficient clearance between the axle shafts and the differential housing. This can prevent binding and excessive wear. Bearing Preload: Shims can be used to adjust the preload on bearings, which can improve the longevity and performance of the axle by reducing play and minimizing stress on the bearings. Steering Geometry: Shimming can also be used to adjust the steering geometry of the RC vehicle, which can affect its handling characteristics. Proper steering geometry can improve stability and control. Differential Setup: If your RC4WD Yota axle has a differential, shimming can help set the proper differential preload, ensuring that power is distributed evenly to the wheels. Noise Reduction: Shimming can help reduce unwanted noise and vibrations that may occur during operation, creating a smoother and quieter RC experience. Durability: By fine-tuning the components with shims, you can reduce the risk of premature wear and tear on critical parts of the axle, which can extend the lifespan of the RC vehicle. Converting an RC4WD Gelande 2 from its stock suspension setup to a leaf spring suspension (z-s1752) can be a fun and challenging project, but it can also significantly change the performance and aesthetics of your RC crawler. Here are the general steps you can follow for a leaf spring conversion: Remove the Existing Suspension: Start by disassembling the existing suspension components from your Gelande 2. This usually involves removing the shocks, links, and any other components that are part of the stock suspension system. Prepare the Chassis: Ensure that the chassis is clean and free of any residual adhesive or components from the old suspension. Be cautious not to damage the chassis during this process. Install Leaf Spring Hangers: Follow the instructions provided with your leaf spring conversion kit to install the leaf spring hangers onto the chassis. Make sure they are secured tightly with threadlocker. Attach Leaf Springs: Attach the leaf springs to the hangers on the chassis. Ensure that they are properly aligned and secure. Install Shocks: If your leaf spring kit doesn't come with shocks, you may need to purchase and install separate shocks. Follow the kit's instructions for shock installation. Linkage and Steering Components: Depending on the design of your leaf spring kit, you may need to adjust or replace linkages and steering components to accommodate the new suspension setup. Follow the kit's instructions for this. Test and Adjust: After the conversion is complete, test your RC4WD Gelande 2 to ensure that everything is functioning correctly. Pay attention to ride height, articulation, and steering performance. You may need to make some adjustments to fine-tune the suspension for your specific preferences and terrain. Final Touches: If desired, you can add additional accessories like scale shock absorbers, skid plates, or bumpers to enhance the realism and functionality of your RC crawler. Maintenance: Keep in mind that leaf spring suspensions may require occasional maintenance, such as lubrication and checking for loose components. Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity of your conversion. Please note that the specific steps and components required for the conversion can vary depending on the brand and model of the leaf spring kit you choose. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions for your specific kit, and consider seeking advice from the RC community or forums for additional guidance and tips. After many requests, I've decided to experiment more with leaf springs on these micro RC builds and model car conversions. Leaf springs are simple and have been used on many full scale vehicles. Recreating these suspensions in 1/25 scale however has proved to be a bit of a challenge. While 3D printing these parts offer some benefits, there are some shortcomings with 3D printing as well. Follow along as I do my best to make a well functioning rear suspension for this AMT 1/25 scale 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. After a little more testing and experimenting, I'll be posting some STL files onto Patreon for you all to 3D print yourself and use for your own projects. Stay tuned for more information. After designing and 3D printing a leaf spring rear suspension for my 1/25 scale 1978 Trans Am model car to RC project, I've put together a little set with the custom parts that I designed for that build. This set includes the STL files for the parts that I designed. As discussed, these leaf springs have their advantages and disadvantages when compared to the linkage suspension set ups I've used on prior projects. I'm still in the process of experimenting with the design so stay tuned for updates and more projects using this suspension in the future. 1978 Trans Am Project: 🤍 STL files and More Information: 🤍 Subscribe for more videos and follow us on social media for more frequent updates and extra content. _ Make It RC Store: 🤍 Make It RC Merch: 🤍 Website: 🤍 Patreon: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 _ #scalerc #rcbuild #3dprinting

How to make spring leaves for RC trucks is easy. This leaf spring works perfectly. I used Rewind Spring Chainsaw combined with PVC for soft. This leaf spring I installed in the previous RC truck video, impressive results. I enjoyed the performance. Main ingredients: 1. Rewin Spring Chainsaw 2. PVC 3. Bolts and Nuts 4. Motorcycle Chains 5. Gas Torch Hopefully inspiring.
I didn't really plan to do any filming but I just kinda went on autopilot and filmed this lol. Seems like a good upgrade though, the springs feel a little stiff now but once they wear in a little and have a heavy load on them they should be pretty ok. Stay tuned for 1000 yall! It's fast approaching! Follow me on INSTAGRAM 🤍hwy49_rc

I've had a few questions regarding the "stiff suspension" on my RC4WD TF2 SWB rig, so I thought I'd throw out a quick comparison vid between a leaf sprung suspension and a linked suspension. With a leaf sprung rig, you will be throwing a tire in the air a lot of the time, which means instead of four tires biting on the rocks or dirt, now you're working with only three . With the linked rig, most of the time over average to slightly difficult terrain you will have all four tires on the ground biting and clawing their way through most anything you can find. Personally, I prefer the challenge that a leaf sprung rig poses. With a leaf sprung rig you have to choose your lines wisely and you have very little safety net should you choose incorrectly due to the limits in suspension travel. To me, this type of set up is more akin to how a mostly stock 1:1 rig would react, and I enjoy watching the struggles of the rig as it tries to navigate the rocky terrain. Now on to the linked rig... A linked rig is much more forgiving. A linked rig will act more like a highly modified, purpose built 1:1 trail/crawler rig. With a linked rig you can move about with a little more freedom and don't have to be so selective in the lines you take as the suspension travel/flex will keep you planted and get you out of most situations. Both types of suspensions are fun in their own way. To be honest it really depends on your driving style and how much patience you have. Less patience....go linked. More patience....give leaf springs a try.
