The Easiest ways to make a website in 2021 My Gear: Monitors 1. 🤍 2. 🤍 Mouse: 🤍 Keyboard: 🤍 Webcam: 🤍 Mic: 🤍 Website builders The first option is website builders You’ve probably heard of these but the most popular ones are wix squarespace and web flow All of them basically do the same thing but there are some differences Wix Pros Great template selection, Easy to use drag and drop interface you can easily add features to your site since they have a wix app market Cons if your on the free plan your website has to have the wix branding on it and if your want to see any tracking or analytics on your website you have to pay for that as well Squarespace Pros SquareSpace has some of the best templates Ive seen and all the templates are mobile responsive meaning they are built to be viewed on your phone as well IF you ever need to your can export or import data from your website Cons it doesn’t have a free plan meaning you will have to pay for square space at some point if you want to keep using the platform, but they do have a free trial if you want to try it out They don’t have a app market meaning if you could be limited in some functionality but apparently if you know how to code you can add some functionality that way Web Flow Pros The best SEO features things like editing meta tags and content Just like the other website builders webflow also has some great templates to choose from. Probably the most advanced in terms of making your site customizable, but you will need some coding knowledge for this. Cons Not as easy to use. And some features may require some coding ability to take full advantage of Your website visitors is limited on what webflow plan your paying for. So for example if your on the lowest plan Basic hosting you are limited to 25,000 monthly visits Another good option is card.co Its a super easy to use landing page builder. It doesn’t have all the functionality as the previous ones but you can get a website up and running in a few minutes and its free with some paid features. Other good options are Hiring a web developer Or building it yourself Obviously since I’m a web developer I just build my websites myself. Its actually really easy all you need to know is HTML and CSS. Let me show you how easy it is I also want to mention Wordpress Its a good option because it been around for a while and a ton of people use. One of the best things is that Wordpress has its own dedicated developer community, there’s people who are dedicated Wordpress developers. Meaning that if in the future you were want to build something more complicated into your website you can easily hire a Wordpress developer to help you out. Wix is an extremely extensive platform, and Squarespace is a sleek and optimized business suite. But don’t get me wrong, these builders aren’t just for business, but which one to choose? I’m Dainius from Cybernews, and I’m here to help you answer that question… Wix VS. Squarespace - Templates 🚧 Let's start this Wix vs Squarespace comparison with template selection. Arguably the first thing a new user experiences. Well, these two providers have slightly different approaches. Wix offers more than 800 templates straight from the box. No template is restricted or limited by your plans or other settings. Squarespace website builder offers more than 110 templates that you can use without any restrictions. Just looking at the numbers, Wix has WAY more options for any type of website, sure that's true, but nearly every Squarespace template is stunning and constantly wins web design awards. So Wix has more, while Squarespace offers a more refined modern selection. 🚧 Wix also offers to auto-generate a template for you based on a few choices. You can see the process on the screen right now. While that's a viable way, I wouldn't recommend it. In my experience, most of the auto-generated templates look similar and not that impressive. No matter what way you choose, you'll arrive at the same editor, so let's look at editing in more detail. Wix VS. Squarespace - Pricing 🚧 Both providers offer a free way to test the platform out, with no credit card required. That's a big plus for both of them. Squarespace has a 14-day free trial where you can publish your new design on a subdomain. However, users can only visit your site if they know your password. Wix, on the other hand, allows you to use it with a completely free plan. So you can create a site, publish it, and host it on a subdomain for everyone to visit. Of course, neither a trial nor an extremely limited free plan is good for anything more than testing or school projects. 🚧 Talking about premium plans, both providers offer similarly priced plans. In fact, both providers' cheapest offers start from under $20 a month. Each plan allows you to publish one single website, and unlike with shared hosting, there is no renewal price increase. So the plan you'll choose will stay the same price as long as you use the provider, which makes managing your future expenses a bit easier. Both offer great features but if you don't pick the right one for your situation, it could cost you dearly. Today we are talking about the best places to build your website, with the pros and cons of each way. Everyone knows about Wordpress and is the go to for most companies and agencies, now whilst this platform works, it is an old system that has been primarily to host blogs. It does have some great functionality and there isn’t much you can’t do in it through the creative use of plugins, but it does still have quite a few issues. But what are the other options you can work with without having to have a custom coded website with a team of developers? Let me show you. Just a note to start with, there is nothing better than a custom built site by skilled developers and designers, the possibilities for integrations, style and optimisation are endless. However they are overkill for some websites, which is where builders come into play. Wordpress Wordpress for me is a very interesting platform as I mentioned there isn’t much you can’t do in it. Want to make a site with memberships - done, want to build an eCommerce site - done, just want a simple blog - done. However it does have it’s downfalls with the usability and design of the platform being quite complex. Pros: Very versatile Can be a quick setup using templates Can be updated without coding knowledge Can be cheap or expensive to run Great community Cons: Plugins slow the site down a lot Have to use a template unless you have a developer Plugins cause security issues Not very intuitive Wix A great platform to use if you want a very simple and basic website. You can build a few cool site types such as eCommerce and memberships and it’s really easy to use, but it limits the design quite heavily. Pros: Quick to load Quick to build Has some good functionality Intuitive to use Cons: Limited design possibilities Alignment can be hard Squarespace Everyone has heard of Squarespace, they sponsor every YouTuber ever and have some great marketing. The builder itself is nice and easy to use for simple sites, but doesn’t have much functionality or design possibilities. Pros: Easy to use Super easy to build Hard to make a bad design in Cons: Template based More expensive option that the others Webflow Finally, my favourite builder out there. Webflow is a great system that allows a lot of flexibility in design with super fast loading times, but it is limited to its functionality - having only recently added eCommerce functionality it is behind the others in this list. Pros: Fast loading times Fully custom or templated design No code necessary Easy to use A lot of design functionality Great community Cons: Limiting back-end functionality (no memberships, no web notifications) More expensive hosting That’s it for this, let me know where you have built your website - and get in touch if you want a free website review! A bit slower than what I was expecting, but still manageable results, since the average website loading time, goes to around 7-8 seconds. But it might feel a bit faster for your users. Why? Well, if we look a bit more closely, the biggest part of my site's content is loaded in about a second. Squarespace vs Wix – which is better? We're going to compare design, e-commerce, SEO, plugins and more in today's video! Squarespace and Wix are both drag and drop website builders. Wix has more of a 'free for all' canvas design approach, while Squarespace is more grid oriented. The Wix ADI option leans a little more grid-like though, with not as much freedom as normal templates. One big downfall for Wix is that it's not 100% responsive... it is mobile-friendly, but not totally responsive. You want to make sure all of your content and links appear as normal, no matter what screen size the user is on! When you look at e-commerce, the two platforms are pretty similar. You can sell digital or physical products, but only sell services on Squarespace. But, Squarespace does not have a point-of-sale integration. Now, looking at SEO on Squarespace and Wix, they are also pretty close. Wix was in some hot water a few years ago for bad SEO practices but they have fixed that. Squarespace also introduced some more SEO options in the last year or so, which was a really nice upgrade! Plugins are popular among Wordpress users, but Wix also has some apps (plugins) you can integrate into your website. I recommend Squarespace over Wix but it's important to understand the differences— and that's what this video will explain. Squarespace vs Wix is almost like Mac vs PC: Squarespace is curated and intuitive like a Mac and Wix is occasionally chaotic but allows for a lot of freedom to customize. Kind of like a PC. - Squarespace's structured editor is much more stable— you may prefer Wix's unstructured editor but just keep in mind some of the problems it creates. - Wix has more features but Squarespace tends to do a better job of features. - Squarespace has better templates and template customization. - Squarespace has the cheapest plan— but not by that much, just $12 a year. It's worth mentioning that this all doesn't mean Wix is bad. My recommendation is more about how good Squarespace is— because there are plenty of worst website builder options than Wix. If you’ve been anywhere on the internet. You know you have to type something in the address bar to get where you want to. But we also all know that each website looks completely different from one another and each one can serve completely different purposes. I’ll be building a squarespace website from scratch then I’m going to give you my thoughts and experiences on Squarespace and then we’re going to decide whether it’s worth using or not. Let’s get started with a little review. A domain name. That’s what you type in the address bar to get to your website, then you need the website itself. Then you need a webhost, which is basically, the place in charge of sharing your website with the world. Now, Squarespace is a site that lets you purchase a domain name, create a website using their templates, use Squarespace as your web host, and integrate an online store onto your Squarespace site. Squarespace asks you all these questions about what you’re trying to accomplish with your site such as the topic and your goals for the website. From there Squarespace has a bunch of templates laid out that you can interact with and preview to get an idea of the general vibe that you want to go for. Once you select a template, you’ll need to sign up with Squarespace to start customizing that template. During this, they give you a 15 day free trial without needing to provide them any credit card information. From there you’re able to customize the template however you want. You can add new web pages up top, have your logo displayed on the site, link your social media accounts for easy access, and replace, add and delete images, text and sections for web pages. You can select the page you want to edit, then, within each page are different “sections” which are just different parts of that page that display different information or serve different purposes. You can then click on what you want to edit, and you’re provided with all the available options that you can change for that particular field. So, for text fields you can edit text and add links, for images you can replace the image or remove them all together. And if a section isn’t meeting your needs you can delete that section or add a new one. When you add a new one, you can choose between a bunch of different templates to meet your needs. Squarespace has 4 different subscription tiers. Personal, Business, Commerce Basic and Commerce Advanced. Each one increases in price from $144 a year to $480 a year. However, I want to point some things out about the business and personal plan. If you read the fine print, Squarespace provides you a free business email, on the business plan, and a free domain name under the business and personal plan. These items are only free if you buy the annual plan and only for the first year. Which means, after your first year, if you stick with squarespace you’ll be paying more money on these plans. My suggestion would be to transfer a domain you purchased from Google domains into Squarespace, get that extra year of rights to that domain, then when that’s about to expire, move it back to Google Domains and renew it or just get it from Google Domains and you’ll be saving money in the long term. So, now that I’ve paid for Squarespace and have my website up and running. How was the entire experience? I think Squarespace makes it really easy to start setting up a website. The site was intuitive and the learning curve wasn’t too steep. Their templates all looked really good, and it was really hard to decide what specific template I wanted for my own site because I really liked a lot of them. So basically to describe SquareSpace in a sentence. It’s easy to use, and it looks pretty. Should you use Squarespace? I think it all depends on what your goal is. If you’re promoting yourself, want something professional looking fast? That’s when I’d start looking at Squarespace. It definitely has the best looking templates by far.
